Atlanta has one of the highest rates of asthma in the nation. The complexities of the connection of mold affecting the degree of indoor air quality relating to personal health issues, such as asthma, in the built environment continues to remain a prioritized focus of SustainATL. Misinformation that supports mold remediation techniques being performed with toxic chemicals ultimately exacerbates mold issues, but moreso, can become even more harmful to those that are living with, or are near the mold. We, at SustainATL, continue on this journey into “all things mold”with optimism and hope …with work ranging from remediation and healthy building consulting in the flood zone of the Chattahoochee River in the aftermath of the flood of September 2009 to downtown Atlanta, amidst fraternity row of Georgia Tech, we continue to research, study, learn and apply knowledge that we hope will alleviate what is now becoming a public health issue.
